Good+ in its original yellow cloth covered boards with red text on the spine and front board. An octavo of 8 7/8 by 6 inches with the text block shaken within its binding with the front hinge going allowing the first free end page and the frontispiece to be a bit loose, the cloth on the spine is tanned and the boards are soiled. Without a dust jacket We note here that the incredibly detailed, color plates by Kay Nielsen show dates between 1913 and 1914 suggesting that they may have been part of an earlier printing of this title. 204 pages of text and illustrated with a color frontispiece tipped-in and 24 color plates tipped-in from paintings by Kay Nielsen and wood block vignettes also by Kay Nielsen. A collection of Norwegian fairy tales beautifully illustrated by Kay Nielsen.

Very good in black cloth covered boards with the gilt text nearly completely faded on the spine and with a color printed label on the front board which shows only light rubbing at its edges and a few minor light scratches to its surface. An octavo measuring 8 7/8" by 6". There is a gift inscription with the prior owner's name and date of "Jan. 2, 1928" on the first free end page. Without its very scarce issued dust jacket. [430] pages followed by two pages of ads by the publisher. "With over one hundred illustrations and decorations by Louis Rhead". A very worthy copy of an uncommon children's classic. The hinges, joints and binding are all tight and there are no loose pages or errant marks such as scribbling.

    Barrie, J. M.:  Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens.  London: Hodder & Stoughton, (1912). First Edition. Very good in its original, gilt decorated light green cloth covered boards with gilt text and designs on the spine and the same on the front board. A quarto of 11 by 8 1/4 inches with the upper 1/2 inch of the spineback worn away and the lower edge of the spine worn down to the edge of the text block, the cloth over the tips of the boards is worn through. The hinges and joints remain strong and tight. The contents are bright and strong in their binding and there is no foxing or tanning of the pages. 127 pages of text illustrated with a tipped-in color frontispiece by Arthur Rackham and all 49 tipped-in color plates each accompanied by printed tissue guards as called for as well as 7 full page black and white line drawings and vignettes all by Rackham for a total of 50 illustrations. (Derek Hudson, Arthur Rackham His Life and Work, p.168) A worthy copy containing one of Rackham's most endearing set of illustrations. The gilt text and illustrations on the front board remain bright and clean.

    Baum, L. Frank:  The Road To Oz.  Chicago: The Reilly & Britton Co., (1909). First Edition, First Printing, Binding B. Very good in light green cloth covered boards with black text on the spine and the outline of an animal character on the spine. The front board is decorated in dark green, light brown and red and has red text spelling out the title. An octavo of 9 by 6 5/8 inches with printed end sheets in black, white and red and conforming to Binding B with large and small capital letters in the spelling of the publisher on the spine (as noted in Paul Bienvenue's The Book Collector's Guide to L. Frank Baum p.42). There are two 1/8 inch holes in the cloth at the head and heel the spine and with light rubbing with the entire backstrip slightly tanned, both hinges have cracked, but has been professionally reinforced with clear, archival tape. The ownership page has a dated (1916) gift inscription. Coinciding with the first printing, binding B the pages of the text block tinted light blue, salmon, and tan. The words "Toto on" appearing on page 34, line 4 shows worn type as is page number 121 and the complete absence of a page number and caption on page 129. Without its issued dust jacket. 261 pages followed by a blank verso and two pages of ads from the publisher. Illustrated throughout from black and white engravings by John R. Neill. There are no color plates with this title. A very attractive and clean copy of this first edition. (Bienvenue, p.41)

    Baum, L. Frank:  The Patchwork Girl Of Oz.  Chicago: The Reilly & Britton Co., (1913). First Edition, First Printing, First State. Very good in light green cloth covered boards with dark green text on the spine and the outline of Woozy character embellished in red on the spine. The front board is decorated in dark green and red with red and green text spelling out the title and author's name. An octavo of 9 by 6 3/4 inches with printed, color end sheets conforming to Binding A as defined in Paul Bienvenue's The Book Collector's Guide to L. Frank Baum p.52. The cloth and the head and heel of the spine is a bit rubbed and the backstrip is tanned. Both boards are slightly soiled. There is a 1/2 inch long area at the fore edge of the front board which has been chewed exposing the underlying board. Both hinges are holding, but starting. The ownership page has a dated (1916) gift inscription. This copy is a first state of the first edition as evidenced by the large red "C" in chapter on page 35 overlying the text on the page and the first page of ads on page [343] begins: "You will be glad to know...". Without its issued dust jacket. 341 pages followed by a blank verso and six pages of ads from the publisher describing early Oz titles. Illustrated throughout from black and white engravings by John R. Neill many of which are in color. A very attractive and clean copy of this first state of the first edition. (Bienvenue, p.50)

A small quarto of 9 by 6 3/4 inches with a 1/4 inch hole eaten through the cloth by some small monster at the lower end of the spine and with the cloth worn down to the edge of the text block. The ownership page is filled in with a dated (1927) signature in pencil and the top margin of the title page is lightly soiled. (288) pages of text. Illustrated throughout with engravings from illustrations by John R. Neill with 12 full color inserts all of which are present and in undamaged condition. Very good in light tan-green cloth covered boards with black text on the spine and with a printed, color, paper label on the front board. An octavo of 9 by 6 1/2 inches with light rubbing and minor losses to the color label on the front board, rubbing and wear to the cloth at the heel of the spine and with page 243/244 torn completely through, but professionally repaired with archival tape on its verso side. The front hinge has started and has been reinforced and the rear hinge has been repaired with book tape. The "This Book belongs to" page has been filled in with pencil by a young prior owner with a date of "January 1, 1922". Without its issued dust jacket. 312 pages of text. A 12mo of 7 3/8 by 5 inches with the top and fore edges of the text block soiled as are the upper edges of the boards and the upper quarter of the backstrip. There is a prior owner's book plate on the first free end page. In a very good+, unclipped dust jacket with very shallow 1/16" chips from the ends of the spine area and at the upper fore corners of the panels over the tips of the boards. On the rear panel of the jacket is an ad for other books by Burroughs listing numerous titles from the series Tarzan, the Martian stories and his western novels. 350 pages of text followed by 12 pages of ads by the publisher.     Hassam, F. Childe:  Doll Rosy's Days.  Boston: D. Lothrop and Company, (c1884). First Edition. Good in illustrated paper covered boards with a new cloth spine. A 24mo of 5 1/2 by 7 1/4 inches with the yellow paper covered boards worn through at the edges, the fore edges of the pages are slightly worn and the first free end page has a long triangular piece missing from its upper fore corner which did not impact on the illustration on its verso side. 27 un-numbered pages illustrated with a color frontispiece and eleven color plates each which bear Hassam's small crescent moon in the lower left corner. The opposing pages contain the text of the book around which are painted scenes presumably by Hassam. The last printed page in the book is a one page, black and white ad for another volume, "Wide Awake" by the publisher. The verses in this little book are by Mrs. Clara Doty Bates and the color illustrations are by F. Childe Hassam. Given Hassam's birth year of 1859 this title would be one of his earliest works of published art.

Insect predation has occurred in the margins of 187/188; 189 through 202 and to the ads at the rear of the book (see below). The front hinge is beginning to loosen, the rear hinge is tight as are both joints. The "This book belongs to" page is free of any names or dates. As pointed out by Paul R. Bienvenue in his wonderful bibliography: The Book Collector's Guide to L. Frank Baum & Oz, this is the only title in the Oz series which does not have a frontispiece plate. 271 pages of text followed by a list of The Famous Oz Books which is followed by three pages of ads from the publisher. Oddly, a book worm has managed to worm his way through these advertising pages as well as small bit of nibbling of the rear end sheet all without damage to the any text.
