All eleven volumes of this complete set are in fine condition in full light brown leather covered boards with four raised bands on the spines with two title labels in red and black leather in two of the compartments and gilt decorations in the others. The edges of the text blocks are gilt, the end sheets are silk and there are matching silk placement ribbons sewn in at the upper edges of the spines. The only flaw with any of the volumes is that two of the gilt letters of text for the title of Volume I are tarnished. Each volume is a small quarto of 9 1/4 by 6 1/2 inches. The series won a Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction in 1968 with the 10th volume in the series: Rousseau and Revolution.
