Very good- in light green cloth covered boards with dark blue text stamping on the front board and on the spine with map end papers. There is what appears to be mildew staining to both boards at the upper, lower and fore edges. The hinges and joints remain tight and strong. In a very good- unclipped dust jacket with 1/2" deep chips from the upper and lower edges of the spine area and a "V" shaped chip of 1/3" deep at the upper edge of the front panel. The jacket shows a price of $3.95 on the front flap in the upper corner. 315 pages of text with illustrations by the author with the maps at the front and rear of the text.

Near fine in green cloth with gilt text stamping on the spine and with gilt decorations on the spine and on the front board. The top edge of the text block is stained a light red. An octavo of 9 by 6 inches with slight fading to the cloth at the edges of the boards and the head and heel of the spine and faint foxing to the fore edge of the text block. In a very good+, unclipped dust jacket with wear to the upper and lower edges of the spine area. This title is the prequel to the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Tipped into the rear of the book is a fold-out map of "Beleriand and the Lands of the North" which is in fine condition. Silmarillion is the story of the First Age of Tolkien's grand work. It was published four years after the death of the author by his son, Christopher Tolkien who edited this work from the journals kept by his father. 365 pages including an index of names, an appendix, and text .
